Peer Internship Program starting in February
“Skills for Success Internship” is a program for At-Risk Youth and Young Adults. The program is recruiting high school students and young adults ages 17 to 23. After the completion of the “Skills for Success Internship” program the students will receive certificates in: Skills for Success, Conflict Resolution, Nonviolent Communication, Tolerance and Parents On A Mission. Completion of the program assures each student that IHS will hire the interns as co-trainers to teach the basic Skills for Success program at Independence High School, or other high Schools in the Denver metro area.
All IHS students will be required to take the Skills for Success program. We know from experience that students will be more open to learn the material from their peers. Given the subject matter of the Skills For Success program, the success of the program will be statistically demonstrated and result in individual betterment. The program will empower the interns with the life skills needed to be a healthy, happy and productive member of society and help in creating a safe learning environment at IHS and other schools.
Interns volunteering and/or recruited for the program are accepted only if they make a commitment to nonviolence and self-exploration. Additionally they must display a positive attitude, both in general and about the program. They must also demonstrate appropriate leadership abilities.
The Skills for Success Internship Program is a 78-week, two semester program. The first semester “Stage One, Letting-Go” is a 52-week course and the second semester, “Stage Two, Showing-Up” is a 26-week course. Skills For Success Intern program will accept and train 60 student interns. Classes will have a maximum of 20 students, meeting once a week for 3 hours.
